What to do on Magnetic Island?

Your accommodation, food and drink is sorted, so now all you have to do is have some fun. You could just laze by the pool for a couple of days, or why not hire our snorkel gear and explore the clear seas (you’ll be required to hire a stinger suit for $5 during stinger season (November – May).

Alternatively you can get out and about exploring the island. There are some beautiful walks to do if you don’t really want to spend much money, or you could hire a topless car to drive around the island. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for koalas, wallabies and loads of other wildlife.

Open dated tickets please allow at least 10 days notice to book
YOU MUST BOOK 2 or 3 CONSECUTIVE NIGHTS.
Any bookings made that are not 2 or 3 consecutive nights will be INVALID.
Any INVALID Bookings will be cancelled by the hostel & customers NOT accommodated.
For an upgrade to a private room please call ahead to book and pay on check-in
LOCAL FEES Magnetic Island local bus service = $5
Base Magnetic Island is a licensed hostel, so we operate under a No BYO policy, due to license requirements guests found with their own alcohol may be asked to leave.
All guests are required to show photo ID on arrival
To keep you as safe as we can guests are required to wear a stinger suit. during Stinger Season November – May each year. Stinger suite are included with the $20 mask, snorkel, fin hire fee.

Need To Know

GETTING THERE: The 25 minute Sealink ferry departs just about every hour from Townsville, starting at about 05.30am and finishing at 10.30pm. Once you’re on the island Base is a short public bus ride away – just jump on the bus heading towards Picnic Bay and tell one of the islands friendly bus drivers you are heading to Base – they will drop you at our doorstep in Nelly Bay for $1.80 each way.

PLEASE COLLECT YOUR FERRY TICKET FROM THE SEALINK TERMINAL IN TOWNSVILLE BEFORE DEPARTING TO MAGNETIC ISLAND, Sir Leslie Thiess Drive (Also the Greyhound bus stop) at least 15 minutes prior to ferry departure.
